Cataloguing queries

November 15, 2007

A generic mailbox called LIB Cataloguing Queries has been set up to operate along the same lines as the LIB Book Orders boxes. Previously, catalogue query or amendment requests (including class number alterations) have been sent to various individuals members of Information Resources (IR) by email, OPAC print-outs via internal mail or mentioned verbally in passing!

In an attempt to provide a more co-ordinated and comprehensive method of actioning these queries, would members of the Customer Services teams please send all catalogue queries to the new mailbox.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could clearly identify the Library site and team from which the query originated, and a copy of the OPAC page if possible (See example below). At the very least we need the title, ISBN, barcode number of the item, and a brief explanation of the nature of the query.

Reservation requests for new books in IR which are ‘In cataloguing’ or ‘In processing’ should still be sent to the relevant LIB Book Orders mailbox.

Example query:

From Boots Library, Academic Liaison Team

 Hello,

Please could you make this book (ISBN = 1841130508) ‘Pamphlets’, instead of ‘Oversize’ please? The spine label already indicates the correct ‘Pamphlets’ collection.
